Hi, everyone: I'm new to the TriCaster Broadcast, and have a question about the output format.

I get an error message on our Leightronix Nexus server when I move a file recorded on TriCaster to play over our closed circuit system. After talking to Leightronix, they sent a preset file which is dropped in the C:\TriCaster\User Date\Default User\Render Presets\MPEG2 directory

However, when I go to choose this render preset (after I load the file in Edit Media and go to render it), it doesn't show up on my drop-down list. The file Leightronix sent me is a DAT file and the other presets show up as just a "file".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I guess that DAT file was a special formated MPEG file used by Leightronix. Such file might not supported by EditMedia. Or, .DAT usually used as mpeg-1/VCD file extension. You can try rename the extension .dat to .mpg and see if there is a chance EditMedia might treat it as mpeg2 file. Good luck.

Hello Fred,

I have a Tricaster Studio and a Nexus. I often render files on my Tricaster that play on the Nexus. I don't know if this will work on a Tricaster Broadcast but here is the procedure for TCS:

Open Edit Media. Place the clip you want on the time line. Click on the "Render" button. Select one of the DVD compatible file formats in the "Save As" drop down box. I use the 1.5 hour format but I think the 2 hour format will work as well.

Render the file. Once the render is complete the file will have an extension as .m2p or something like that. Here is the secret part, rename the file with an extension of .mpg. Remember Nexus file names are limited to 27 characters with no spaces.

Thats it. Transfer the file to the Nexus and you are good to go.

Thanks Dub2Dat for the info. I'm looking forward to trying that. Currently I render in AVI, then bring it in to FCP and play it out realtime to my Nexus. This will be a huge time saver!
