View Full Version : Hoping that the VT will get some "Newtek Love" at NAB this year...

While I'm certainly not counting on it, it would be nice to see the VT get some attention from Newtek at NAB this year. My four (practical) big wishes are:

1. The VT gets a rework of the XD LiveSets technology, including the ability to set up zoom levels and adjust them live during a production. It would also be nice to see everything move to the new Liveset creation toolkit to increase support for the VT as 3rd Parties build new sets for the HD world.

2. Improve the quality of the keyer to create more believable composites. The XD keys are awesome (making the live sets more believable) and I'm sure some of that could make it's way to the VT. (A better keyer in SE would be a good start.)

3. I would love more attention to the Post-Production side of VT - even including the ability to work with HD in non-realtime "Post Sets" that could be be rendered. It could create an elegant solution for something that take way too much effort in Final Cut Pro today.

4. Offer the 'projects' oriented interface for the VT that is now on the XD300. It really makes a lot of sense. I would even like Newtek to provide some Tricaster like 'all-in-one' skins. Beyond offering some personal ergonomic benefits (they are really well thought out), it could also be useful when using the VT while working with folks that have experience with a Tricaster.

Like I said, I don't have high hopes that any of this will ever come out - never mind make it to this NAB. I have no doubt that Newtek will be focusing as much attention as possible on the new XD850 (which sound awesome BTW) and the ecosystem they can build around that, but maybe - just maybe - there may be something rolled in the mix for us VT folks.

Here's hoping... :goodluck:

Best

Well, how about $10k off the price of a TCXD850 with a VT trade in?

Or, as Don put it in another context, "Deal, or no deal?" ;)

That is certainly an incredible offer - I hope I can figure out some way financially to make it work for me before it expires.

Newtek once again has raised the bar on taking care of their customers. I am just so impressed.

You guys rock!

Where are the details of the VT to TCXD850 upgrade posted? I have to say the TCXD850 meets my current and anticipated needs for the near future so my VT5 is on borrowed time....

I have to say the TCXD850 meets my current and anticipated needs for the near future so my VT5 is on borrowed time....I am not aware of any immediate plan to publicly list of details just yet. No doubt dealers will all get these first, and then I believe I heard talk of reaching out to registered owners directly in some manner. Right now it's still in a 'here is a preliminary overview of the main points' form', with some relatively small items still to be worked out of little matters to be.

The broad picture, though, for the moment is extremely generous consideration shown to registered current VT[5] owners, with a sliding scale for those with prior revisions (4, 3, etc.). So, even if your system is not current, as long as it's actually yours (i.e., not one you buy today on eBay thinking to capitalize on NewTek's legendary reciprocity to it's loyal customers), you're in for major savings - generally a discount that is very likely considerably larger than your original investment, despite the intervening years and your profitable use of your VT!

Okay, there's some discussion about a $10,000 dollar discount, so I imagine other registered VT5 users like myself would be interested in getting some details in addition to the NAB announcement and sidebar discussions.

I just figured with such an exciting release the word would be out a little more officially.

That's a great point about eBay. It might not be so hot for us users, but NewTek's partners may feel differently if if brought in customers that otherwise would not have bought a new product from NewTek. If there's margin in selling a TCXD850 for $15,000, that might might be a smart business decision for them.

In any event, I'll check with my local dealer and keep my eyes out. Safe time in Vegas!

Indeed.
I hope this will last for a while. That has to have been one of the better demos of their products that I've seen in some time.
I can see saving my pennies for one of these things. Would I be able to donate my VT to a school, to foster NewTek awareness?

I do know that the basic premise is that you would return your registered card to validate the credit, but that said there does seem to be some basic nobility to your notion and it's interesting enough that I can imagine it getting some discussion. No promises of course, I'm barely awake, and not in any decision making capacity on this sort of thing in any case.

The exact details on how the process works will be announced when we ship TCXD850 in July.
