Hey, Great Model.

You in about the same stage as me. I Modelling detail and adjusting joints for improved deformation, then ACS4 rig/weightmaps and on to walk cycle.

I don't know if I qualified to give comments on your model, but someone pointed out to me that some ares of my model were a bit square.

Might I be so bold to point out that the back of rhe legs and ankle are a bit suqare. This is ment as a friendly comment and hope it helps.

I always welcome comments myself. I think this forum is great for Newbies like ourselves, to improve motivation on personal projects that we are not being paid for and to help the learning curve.

Great start anyway.

Looking forward to seeing further progress.

Here is the character rigged with ACS3
I am now working on the weight maps.
Still having deformation problems.

The back brop is just a simple plane that was bent in modler, like an "L" shape but instead of a sharp corner, I rounded it off.
it is known as a "cyc" which is short for "cyclorama", comercial Photography studios use it alot, and being that I work for a studio I am able to have access to a lot of professional information that I think will help me in my lerning.

How much time you need to rig a character with ACS4?
I'm also interested in the plugin but can find only a PC demo on their site so I didn't have the chance to test it out.

No bugs that I've ever experienced using 7.5c. There was a few when they released 7.5b but Lukasz (creator of ACS4) squashed those within a day of the release. It's a great plug-in and worth the very cheap price you pay for it.

And it generally takes 10-15 minutes to setup and convert a rig ready for animation with ACS4.

Judging by the tutorials on their site, it should take only a few minutes.
Using ACS3 It took me maybe about 5 min.
That's including adjusting the included bones to fit my model.

The longest is setting up the weight maps, that can take a few hours depending on your model.
There is a great tutorial on rigging from http://www.lostpencil.com/
the "just animate" series is great.
I purchased "Model&Rig in a Day (Lightwave) " and it proved to be very helpful.

If you do it so fast, then its definitly worth the money.
I did my first manual rigs afters spending lot of time on the web and I need 2 or 3 days.

Maybe helpfull
Here you can download most complete free rigging tutorial I found on the web
http://http://www.3d-palace.com/modules.php?name=Videos&pid=3

I learned also a lot From the Todd Grimes
Animation series. Tey came with my Lightwave.
The only thing I don't like on his rigging style is that he don't use extra small bones on his joints to prevent strange rotation axis.

Hi,

I have had zero problems with ACS4. Its straight forward and simple.

The weight maps aren't too much of a problem if u have a plugin to mirror the maps once u have maped one side of a character.

Rigging was a real headache for me even after doing the Digiwonk tutorials from 3D-Palace. I prefer to spend my time doing other things like weight maps.
