View Full Version : Textures not Locking

Either I have a bug or I'm losing my mind. I created a simple cylindrical object in modeler, created a new surface and gave that surface an image map texture. I can get the image to map properly but when I go to move the model on the stage the texture slides off. I didn't use world coordinates. I also understand that textures should be locked to the surface by default. Any ideas?

You "moved the model on the stage"? If you moved your model in Modeler then the texture will appear on a different place on the model. Moving the model in Layout is OK.

Keep your model in the same position in Modeler.

Alternately, a more complex way is to use UV mapping, but that takes quite a bit of learning.

Hrm...that was too easy. So if I wanted to create the cylindar and place it on a stand(e.g. simple box) I should wait to apply image maps until after I'm done moving things around?
LW Layout doesn't allow me to place a new surface on select polygons, correct?

Yup, that's correct. Position everything first. That's the easiest way unless you are using UV maps.

As for your other question you can change surfaces in layout but you can not define new surface names to polygons. If you are using the Hub you can easily switch to Modeller, name new surfaces, switch back, wait a second and it should update.

An additional option (which I use often) is to surface objects in a surfacing-only scene. I set up a standard light rig with 3-point or more lighting (depending on the object) and surface the object in that scene, save the object, and pass it off to the main scene it is used in.

Thanks for the tip...that should allow me better control over the surface details
