Ok, call me stupid, cuz that's what i am, but i was recently asked to render out some 300 dpi images and i don't really know what that means or how to do it! Can anyone shed some light on this subject? THANKS! :D
lightwave doesn't have a DPI setting, it just renders pixels, so you have to work out how big an image will be at a certain DPI.
Eki wrote a cool lscript to help this calculation.
Download it here (http://www.creactive-design.co.uk/temp/DPI.ls)

300 dpi per inch.
So a 3x3 image at 300 dpi would render out at 900 x 900.
Hope this helps.
as much as i love eki its pretty easy to just do the math ;)
jtimberlake is right on, just multiply the desired size in inches x 300 and you get your pixel resolution.

For something really cool (when you can afford to render for awhile)... try rendering something huge like 9,000 x 12,000, go into Photoshop set image size to 7.5" x 10" and 1200 dpi, then print. You will get a 1200dpi full sheet that really pops! Most injets today can print 1200dpi, but very seldom do you ever print anything (other than fonts) at that resolution.
Try it, it is pretty amazing.

for what its worth...
i just finished a project doing 300 dpi renders at A4 size.
A4 is 21 cm * 28 cm at 300 dpi gives you a size of 3307 * 2480 pixels.

Er ESHRA call me old fashioned but isn't A4 21x29.7 cm?
Also if I have to workout sizes and can't be bothered to use my eki plugin I just rev up photoshop and make a document to the size required and at 300 DPI and in image size it tells you how big it is in pixels. (I do this because I'm 1 lazy and 2 numerically challenged)

If you render out of Lightwave at 2400 x 3000, you can then change the resolution (in Photoshop) from 72 dpi to 300dpi and have an 8 x 10 image.
