Hey everyone, I accidently forgot to use the stop and start button and made a very long video file (40 gig), which I'm having difficulty editing in Sony Vegas. How can I split the file or what software can I use to split it without recompressing it. Thanks for any help I can get:D

there's not really a "split" function per se, but you can take a clip into the editor, and move your pointer to near the center, at a convenient place to slice... and use the "razor clip at edit point" to cut the clip into 2 pieces. Depending on the model TriCaster you are using, you can select the first half, and use the Render selected function, to make a new clip of the first half, the select the second half and repeat.

Thanks Bob, but is there a software outside Newtek that I can do it with. Recently I let go of my Tricastor so that's why. Sony Vegas chokes on large files like these.

Do a Google search on non destructive MPEG tool/split/edit to find a few of them. I personally use AVS ReMaker;
http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-ReMaker.aspx
It works well and I have been using it for three years now.

PS I have an old version on my desktop that also has the NewTek codec pack installed. I mention this to point out it will not work with Studio Profile TriCaster MPEG files. So if you used regular record MPEG2, then AVS ReMaker will work and not sure if new version will work with Studio Profile.

Take care,

I don't have the solution to splite your recorded long file. But I have a ToasterScript can auto-archive recording and/or streaming file in a selected time interval. That should help for your future live production.

Please check my web page http://www.animlab.com/index_en.html. Click [NewTek Addons] at top menu, then [ToasterScripts] at left menu, then click at [TCA: TimedRecNStreaming] for details.
The scripts can save Recording/Streaming files at every 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. You can modify scripts for other time intervals.
