EDL Test results

Here is a screen grab from an edit test made from a discreet edit system. The results are not good. VT3 missed the fade in, the one dissolve and the one wipe.
It also missed the split edits. The timecode values are also messed up.

What can I say. Is anybody using this for valid recapture or mastering of edl's??

I was hoping to online some projects from an AVID that's still working with AVR 75. I'm gonna try some tests today and see what happens.

OK i think it´s like this. EDL list cant help you with dissolves fade or wipe´s, its only numbers.
To be able to get project between "say" Avid and "VT3"you need somethink like AAF, MXF or OMF.

VT3 does not have the support for that yet, but here is some old links that talks about it.

Now if VT3 could have support for OMF,AAF and MXF you cold smile all day long.

Today u can only batch edl list......

If I'm right, EDL's DO have support for basic switcher functions (aka - Dissolves, and some basic wipes).

This shouldn't be a problem.

Yes! any proper edl will import basic switcher effects like dissolves and basic wipes. The big problem is the times are not right! The edl has two tracks of audio and VT3 mishandles it as a stereo channel. The split edit converted out by capturing the duration of the clip again but placed it twice in the timeline. The inpoints of the captured clips are right but the out points are off. Not good! I bought VT3 for two things, Mini-dv editing that right now goes green after 6 to 10 minutes(although I have a patch right now that has not been tested) and uncompressed mastering of off-line projects. That does not work. Perhaps if Newtek had spent a little more time on the timecode support and less time on the spline editor. They could have always added that extra after the basic system was working.

The edl "text" list shown in your posted image does not have any audio tracks visible, and does not show any split edits either.

EDL's can handle transitions, so I would like to check out with your file. Please send to Aussie at...

My mistake I did not have the audio turned on. Here is a Jpeg of the results with the audio tagged. Doesn't look any better.

BTW, any cages are probably of my own making, and my leashes are only accessories, selected to color co-ordinate with my drinking clothes. :)

In our editions sometime we need to import .edl
match it with the digital cut
add effects, exports some avis to AE
reload it and print to tape.

We try sony9000 edl, fades are ok... but velocity changes dont.

I did the exact same exercise over a year ago, with a friend's VT3 and my discreet edit. A "straight cuts" edl would come in fine, but the minute there are overlays, it seems to throw the system out.

It was investigated by Customer Care at the time, and although edl support was promised, it is sad to see it has not yet materialised, as it is the *one thing* that is stopping me from buying toaster.

(Wonders: does SpeedEDIT address this problem, or VT[5]?)

Overlays also cause problems when moving thing in the storyboard. I would be that these issues are related.

Know what EDL list can do?? ... Any special wipes,overlays or dve´s is not handled by EDL...
