I am installing windows 7 64 on my laptop with a new 320gb hard drive and was wondering if I should partition (C , D) the drive? If I do partition it, which partition should I install SE to for the best performance. I also have an ESATA port I use with an external drive.
partitioning it will make no performance difference, but one reason to create 2 partitions would be to put the data (video files) on the D drive as well the the cache folder so you don't run risk of using the entire drive space and crashing the operating system.
If your video files are on the eSata, then just use 1 partition and put the cache folder on the C drive.

By default the cache is on the C: drive in the users temp directory, so with one physical drive there isn't much point in moving it unless the C: partition is really tiny.
You want some room for background rendering.
