Hello All,
I started this thread before they had the wip forum so if you would like to see the previous posts they are here:

I have continued working on my model and would like any suggestions for making it better. I have not worked much on the legs yet, and have been trying to get the shape of the shoulders and arms to look decent.
This is only my second character and I am moving slowly trying to avoid the mistakes that I made in my first, ie.. lots of unnecessary polies, etc.
C@C please, they are very helpful.

I'd like to see the troll's muscles develop more... I dunno...could be just the lack of texture, but for some reason I just remember it being a little more ... strong.

Its quite basic at the moment but with some work u can make it look very cool.
for the arms and legs i think u need to look at some refrence or your own arm thats what i do most of the time.
The face looks ok from what i can see. you might want to add some wrinkles to give it more depth also i didnt see any teeth.
Another thing that helps me when working on characters is to put the model in the colours that it will look like in the end. Its a good help to use a vertex colour map as well so u can really see what ure doing, u can add shadows and stuff under arms and stuff with it really helps :)

Thanks Guys,
I will work on his muscles some more this afternoon when I get home from coffee with my friends and if the results are looking good Ill post an update.
@ dave3d:: I have kept him pretty simple to this point to see how much I can get out of my current geometry and also to keep the editing of points easier. YOu are right, he has no teeth, at this time.
@Zombat:: I am not sure of how much more muscle to give him, maybe they just need to be reworked a little to give them a better form. But, I do want to make him look a little beefier in the muscle dept!!
Here is an image I used as reference, as you can see he really isnt "ripped" like the incredible hulk but kinda just a big lumbaring monster::

Hello Again,
Well, I worked a little on my character today, and added some more muscles to beef him up, next I think I will work on the legs and then get the hands and feet in.
Do you think that the arms look ok now, or should I do some more to them??
Thanks

Hello All,
Well I have continued working on my cave troll, and I think that I am almost done with the modelling. I still need to do a little to the face and add eyes and teeth.
Can you please give me some c&c to make it better?
Thanks,

I like this guy, good progress.
It looks like the geometry in the back of his arms is atrating to get pinched, this will happen when useing the magnet tool.
Also, the fat roll looks the same on his front and back, I think it should stop (fade into body) before it hits the spin.

Hello Johnny,
Well I spent the last few minutes staring at that fat roll and I agree with you taht it should blend more into the back. But, I done know what you are trying to tell me about the arms:( Do you think that when I animate him that the geometry in them will become pinched, is that what you are saying?
Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them.

Thanks Johnny,
I got the email you sent me and I see what you mean now. I made the ulna bone in the forearm to prominent. For as meaty as he is, it shouldnt be so.
Well, I'll work on those things this afternoon when i get back from lunch. Also, I should have the eyes in by then.
Do you have any suggestions for modelling teeth??

Hello Matt,
Do you think that they are big enough now:)
I am working on adding a belly button and his nipples but I dont know if the five point polies that have been created for the belly button will cause me problems when animating, any suggestions??

Yeah. Work Faster! ok, you heard enough of that. I think you should finish the mouth and teeth. Then you'll better see the proportions of the head and mouth. The hands have a level of detail the rest of the body doesn't have. So you shuold make a decision, does the body match the detail of the hands, or should the hands match the body. I think I know your decision.

Hello All,
I am pretty happy with the model and am going to rig him for animation now. I finally got the teeth and detail to the head added and would like some feedback on them.
Also, I have asked the following question in some other areas, but I'll ask it here::
What do you suggest for animating the arms, fk or ik? I have had some limited success with ik on the arms but had a hard time positioning the elbow. I am comfortable using ik for the legs.
Also, what circumstances would benifit more from using ik / fk for the arms?
Any comments would help alot.
Thanks

Hello,
I am now setting up my character to be animated and have made some morphs to correct the bending of the joints. I plan to use jointmorph to apply these, but I was wondering if there was a way to copy my morph map from one side of the body and apply it to the other. Similiar to what you can do with your wieght maps and vertex paint??
Thanks for your time.

I still need to do some work to the hands to make them more true to my character, but in the mean time I have set him up for animation and have done a few poses for him.
What do you think so far?
Also, does anyone have suggestions for setting up the shoulders to work well.
I am using a setup from http://www.lwhub.com/theory.html but have not been successful in getting the bicep to move in any axis at all:( unless I sway away from the setup on that page and then they end up not working quite so well.
Has anyone used this setup before, did you have problems with it?

He looks like a fusion between a monkey and Spielbergīs E.T. itīs more noticeable in the eye area.
The head is very small in relation to the body, the belly area needs some work, looks like he have his spine in his belly, and the mouth looks more like a hole.
Bring updates

Hello Again,
I have my shoulders working correctly now and my jointmorphs are working too!! Well, he is another render I did. Any tips on improving the lighting.
Next, I am going to work on his face some more and add morphs to it too so he can make some expressions.
