Are you asking in regards to NT products or in general?
At this moment there isn't a way to edit H.264 with SE 1.5 unless you convert it to an intermediate format first...
But since SE 2.0 is close to shipping you might want to look at that when it ships.
As for other apps...Premiere and FCP each support various flavors...but even for them...at this time...it is better to convert to an intermediate format to edit with...but times are a changing :) stay tuned...

dear kyle
i shot a music video with Canon 7D recently because my A-Cam was not working. Instead of cancelling the shot and waiting for the replacement...i said to talent we are gonna shoot all with Canon 7D...
Well if you obey rules of CMOS sensor i think this thing is a miracle.
Editing side can be tricky. I got Cineform Neoscene. Converted all footage into AVIs (windows here) and everything was smooth silk in Premiere CS4.
But when i wanted to export it into Cineform AVI for final render it did render but without audio sync... I let Cineform about the bug..they said..it is not possible to fix it right now because of vacation etc. They even told me install virtual dub, and re import audio there.. Because Picture was ok but audio was out of sync..
Anyways my workaround is...after i completed all editing in premiere pro i copy and paste the whole sequence After effects time line.. (that is what i do since im an after effects freak) then i exported whole sequence video for windows but chose Cineform Avi ...it worked...
So till CS5 ..which is gonna be full 64 bit with mercury engine...Cineform workflow is the best way to go...
Best...

hey sekhar
yes i do have..im finishing the final touches..ill upload a portion...soon.
All we need native 4:2:2 or better output hack for Canon 7D. Yes You cannot make any fast pan any fast move as you did in CCD based hi-end cameras but...it has its own look
The funny thing i just brought Canon 7D just for test so i didnt have more than 2 lenses.
I used almost all 2/3 cameras.. using Canon 7D is a curse. I mean it is light, it is almost impossible to use without a decent rig ...I m planning to buy a full rig from Cinevate and use this magic cam better.
Also because im so impressed the DOF taste of this camera, i will shoot first Lightwave Dedicated Music Video with it :) It will be fun i guess.

tyrot,
Well i just got back from the holiday using this camera, I ran some tests, at 720p @ 60FPS and 1080p @ 24Fps. The footage looks better than I imagined, the Low light test I did with a Canon 50mm Prime at 1.8 4000ISO had grain but was very use able. The Natural Light was fantastic. Very impressed with the camera. It automatically has a very contrasted look, for color manipulation I would play with the settings to get more of a flat image so you have a better range to play with. All in All I would say that for 1899.99 at BHphoto, that camera impressed me. Leaps and Bounds better than HDV IMO. Audio has issues and Rolling shutter can be a pain if your not educated about how CMOS sensors work.

hey kyle
yes you are right..you know i heard some guys ...probably indie feature shooters, sold their Panasonic HPX 500 and got 2-3 Canon 7D ..it is pretty amazing...i should say..What i like most we dont need 35 mm camera adapters anymore..
I guess next logical step is to invest Cinevate or redrock micro rigs...decent follow focus etc. Otherwise talents or clients are getting a bit picky about the size factor:)
I know lotta fellas started to use this little device for big projects. It is becoming an instant 2nd camera...
By the way i was in Fresno for 1 year...I hope our university team is doing ok..Wish you all the best...waiting for your footages ...

SE2 can edit Canon 7D files directly and very quickly.
No conversion is needed, although if you are on a slower system, you can now batch convert to our intermediate format right in the filebin.

....ROCKS! I can't speak to the 7D but would assume it's essentially the same in terms of video. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a lot of pro/sumer Canon owners will end up with SE 2 for video use.

Just noticed this thread. I'm in the "The Canon 7D rocks!" camp. I have a few things up on vimeo if you want to check out what it can do here:

I've got a Redrock Micro cinema rig which includes mattebox, follow focus, etc. I use nikon primes with an adapter and it looks really nice. Lucky for filmmakers, all the old photographers are dumping their old nikon manual prime lenses for cheap and getting the more expensive auto lenses.

http://www.vimeo.com/9260953 What bitrate are you posting at Vimeo Kevin? This is the first problem I've had with playback, let it play through choppy, but then it wanted to load again, is this a .swf and file on your server? Fragmented?

Plays reasonably well here, full-screen. Not 100% smooth, but very acceptable for a stream.

I have one here. edits very well.
The bitrate is 47 megabits/sec, almost twice hdv.
The format is full 1920 x 1080 sq pixels.
Very good resolution.
Looks better than the Panasonic 500 p2 chip cam.

John I have just upgraded to the XD300 which has SE2 in it. I'm using the Canon 7D. I want to drag my clips in to SE2 and batch convert them for use
in the Tricaster Live environment. How do I do that through filebin.

Not to speak for John, but check out section 3.4 (The Filebin) in the SE2 manual (which you can access from the Help menu in TCXD300's Startup Screen). Specifically, look at the sub-heading Convert to SpeedHQ.

Thanks I went there and had a look. Id like to refine my question. I want to
batch convert clips from the canon 7d to use in our live productions with the
XD300 . I can drag the clips from the card reader into the storyboard highlight them and render to a .avi file, no problem ....how ever it creates 1 file from all the clips. I want batch convert the clips as individual files.

I'm referring to the Filebin, which has the "Convert to SpeedHQ" menu item. This will respect the individual files.
p.s. - I passed through Parksville many years back - gorgeous country. loved the whole island! :)
