Not sure where to put this question, but with the Toaster nearly out the door and lack of RTV support in the TriCasters (barring limited use as a format in SpeedEdit) - don't you think RTV is on its death knell?

Just my personal 2 cents, but RTV is only useful for SD, and if you really want SD uncompressed, one could argue that uncompressed AVI might serve as well, and be more universally accepted. For HD on NewTek systems, I think I'd lean to MPEG2 or SpeedHQ (when you need alpha) ...

In general, over the past years since the "era of RTV" we have adopted an approach that using standard file formats is far better for both us and out customers that propriety ones. We have no intention on stopping full support for VT which is the product that has full comparability for all forms of RtV, so it is not going anywhere - and SpeedEDIT does and will continue to full support it. That said, we are unlikely to extend the file format further at this point. For instance, if we where to adopt an uncompressed video format, using uncompressed YCbCr AVIs would be a more generally compatible approach.

That makes a lot of sense.

Makes sense to me as well, yet, "...We have no intention on stopping full support for VT...Andrew

...That's the statement that I'm *particularly* drawn to.
:D

I hope that's the case since so much of our archived footage is in the .rtv format.

if i convert from the Quicktime h.264 format from Kodaks ZR hd camera to mp4 format and then to rtv - the playback of the rtv stutters consistently -
whereas going from the mp4 to avi does not

is that to be expected since its trying to fill in a lot of blanks - or should i convert the qtime file to rtv - (h.264 is super slow on se vt[5] on a p4!!!) so i render to mp4 which does not hang up the timeline then to rtv in the final render of a clip.

If you want to end up with .rtv, go directly to .rtv, don't pass go, don't collect/waste $200.00 :)
Basically, don't muddy the waters with unnecessary processing.
