I rendered a 104 minute film in SpeedEDIT. The resulting file was over 18 GB.
I then used Sony Vaio 'content exporter' to put 'that file' on a 4.7 GB DVD.

When played, the movie had been 'reduced' (appeared to be cut down on all sides) on the screen (projected by a panasonic 900U onto a 10' screen). Actors heads and butts partially missing.

Question: is that due to the process of making 18 GB fit into 4.7 GB? (I guess the Irish would call that 'creating a blivet.'

Question: If I redo the 'problem' clips using control tree (positioner + 3D) can I circumvent the problem and re-gain the 'heads and butts' of these fine actors? [is there an easier way?]

That is called the safe zone all TVs and projecotors clip between 5% - 15% of the image all the way around I am sure if you played the 18 gig clip on WMP you will see the whole image as WMP does not clip to the safe zone.

read up here:

Now the compression to get 18 gigs down to a single layer DVD now that will lower image quaility a lot. You may get better results using a dual layer DVD (DVD+R DL)

I also just read another article on DVD menus. So, I went into my DVD player and changed the setting from 4:3 to 16:9. The entire movie showed exactly how it looked in my computer's preview window.

The movie was shot in 16:9 and kept in 16:9 all the way through.
