Being a sucker for all things B5, here's progress on a new model:

Looking Georgeous!
How do you go about starting those sweeping curves of wings, with the inset front grill bits?
The only thing I can see to criticise at this stage is the way the head meets the neck, which looks a bot arbitrary. But I don't think we ever saw that on the series?
More please, and soon!
Nick
PS - Spaceships are no longer a cliche - disembodied heads are!

Really like what you have done. Can't wait to see it when it's finished. Use to watch B5 all the time. Thinking about getting the DVD's and re-live some good times.

Well, I'm not up on B5 but it looks pretty good to me. Nice details. Hope to see some texture updates.

Thanks guys! I'll post more WIp when I can, still quite a bit of modelling to do before I start texturing though.
Cheers!

Here is the latest update:

I'd quite like to know exactly what the 'boxes' on the wings are for. They look like they should be air intakes, but I don't think they would be.

Stunning !!!
I really like your rendering effect with wireframe !!!
I guess you achieved this with Radiosity + Wireframe rendering ?
Very Cool looking!

Thanks for the great comments :)
Musart, it is indeed radiosity and wireframe render, I just set the edges all to render at 0.25 width, and the higher the AA the better to prevent funny strobing effects.

Sorry to nag - can I ask again how you went about the big sweeping wings with the inset bits - I do not know where to start, and I am hoping it is simple!
Incidentally see here:

For B5 fonts - may be handy for your work!

Sorry Starbase, I should have answered this the first time you asked :/ Anyway, have a look at this wireframe render which will make it clearer:
http://www.f-nine.co.uk/xfer/vorchan_test_021.jpg
I basically made a sphere which was uniform diameter in Z and X, but much collapsed in Y. I then created a disk in a seperate layer with 1 segment and 60 devisions. I booleaned this from the sphere. The insets are uniform size and spacings based on the segments of the disk object used for the boolean. The insets were created by vertibevelling in and back. Before I could do that I had to weld points and tidy up any points which presented a gap small enough to their neighbours which would cause a negative overlap. A little boring and fiddly but not too long winded.
Cheers!
P.s. Thanks for that link!

Wow, amazing work - microbevels everywhere.. mmmmmmmm :)
Two things are bothering me (pl note that i haven't seen this ship on any episodes, so my critisism may by irrelevant):
http://www.firedragon.com/~lwg3d/upload/wip/2003/09/14-583113.jpg
The cubical shaped thingy supporting the tailfin - looks too computerish in a lowres kinda way. Dont know how else to explain.. sorry :)
Then there is the intakes on the sides - maybe lighting is causing those hard lines (i think it is). But they do look like they dont fit in.
Other than that... well.. nothing.. supperb renderings even though the ship is missing a map or two ;)

Hey Zafar
Thanks for the comments. The 'box' is kinda incomplete I guess, as it lacks any kind of detailing to match it to the rest of the design. The intakes do have those lines visible, but it is the result of only having a singular surface setting applied currently with a smoothing angle of around 25 degrees, so some bits do show harsh edges visible. I wish I had surface assigned as I went now, I usually do, but because the first model was lost in a prtition failure, I got thrown off track and just got right back to restarting the gemotry :/
I'll update again soon.
Cheers!
