I am trying to find a camera-setting that imitates a fisheye-lens with extreme distorsion. Can anybody help?

on the camera item properties panel you'll find a zoom control. The default setting ia already pretty fisheyed...( this is so loaded items automatically look "3D" and not flat) but lowering the setting will make the effect stronger. I often use a setting of 1.2 to get a POV type shot. Even lower will exadurate more. Becareful when the numbers get really low, because the effect in multiplied exponentially, so one little click starts to make a huge difference.

Also note that as you lower the value, you'll have to move the camera closer to your objects if you want them the same relative size.

thanks for your reply

yes, this technique works as long, as you want to set to an extreme wide-angle effect imitating an corrected camera-lens. the "distorsion" in this case is result of a big difference of scaling of near positioned object to those in the background.

i searched the forum for simular threads (yes, this should have been the first thing to do  ) and found useful information in this one: http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?threadid=8143&highlight=fisheye

'Juans special projection'-plugin works pretty fine, but the distorsion-effect seems to get weaker to the corner of the picture.
the tutorial of thekho looks very cool. i will try this next.

thanks a lot

Hi Pic,
This problem has cropped up a few times so I am not the one who fist thought of this. But I do love the simplicity.

Anyway to get the fish eye distortion simple point the camera at a reflective sphere. The reflection will have the correct distortion.

It need not be a complete sphere but enough to cover the whole of the view.

1. Parent the camera to a reflective sphere and Target the same sphere.

2. Adjust the of the Camera distance so that the view is correct(You do need to do a series of F9 tries).

3. Once you have the image/sequance flip them in Photoshop.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gui Lo,

I made a quick test and it works very well. The workflow you described is easy to manage. Thanks a lot!

And after I checked the "unseen by rays"-field in the object properties of the reflective ball the mirrored image of the ball disapeared... Great!
