Thank you for your work, LWCAD is a great product.
The roads tool is very helpful for me in that I do Land planning and so do a lot of road layouts.
It would be very helpful to have the pipe tool or a curve tool with two additional options for making roads.
1. Segment length
2. Curve radius
There are certain minimum requirements for roads for state and locals jurisdictions to accept.
one of these is that a curve in a residential road can be no less than a 300' radius so it would be nice to draw the curves as a radius rather than an angle.
second is that if a road has a reverse curve it must have a minimum straight or "tangent" section that is no less than 50'. So it would be helpful if a curve tool or pipe tool set to curve could draw out like it does now but with the added adjustments of radius size and length of tangent between curves.
Of course I would want all the great features that are now in the curve / pipe tool but have the Radius and segment length added so that they update along with the distance measurements that now show.
Thank you very much,
W. Wade Woehrmann :hey:

Oh and if anyone would like to point out an obvious way of doing this that I am missing that would be fine. But it needs to be as easy as the curve tool or pipe tool works now. Thanks :o

NOW I feel a little silly as LWCAD pipe tood does do all of this exept for giving the distance of the tangent between curves which would be nice to have added but I can always just measure after the fact and make sure it is at lenght..

REALLY NICE tool just needs a tweak.

Radius measurement does not reflect true size of radius.
The tool will let you drag out curve radius but stops when there is not room left to expand - but the measurement will show it bigger than it is. Would be nice if this changed color if not correct or just stopped at the true size.

Again I would like to be able to insert a straight segment or "tangent" with length between curves.

.. just don't want you to feel lonely in here Wade ;)

Thanks!

I like the added features of LWCAD with a tweak or two it could be even more usefull. I need to make sure I really understand what it can and can not do before I go posting images left and right.

Thanks again for the company. :)

Why don't you mail Viktor directly about this. I guess that would make more sense towards him.

I did and he got back with me very quickly. The thing is this tool for "pipes" is very useful for roads and perhaps many other tasks so it might spur some even better ideas amongst the minions. :hey:

And this being the section about how one does things "Technique" perhaps someone would share a better way to do what I want to do with tools at hand - they just might chim in. Technique / thrid party.

Thanks,

Wade

Why not use the line and arc tools for the creation of your road. this should give you total control of the corner radius etc, Roads tool works with both these tools.

The pipe tool is much quicker.!

It really has a lot of uses other than pipes. Why not use the line and arc tool for pipes?

If tangents are added as an option between curves it would be even more useful not just for pipes and roads but I am sure other things not yet thought of..

Im sure the features your wishing for will eventually be added , after all this is a one man developer plugin and things take time. If you need precision above all else line and arc are the way to go, if you currently need speed, then precision may suffer.

Otherwise we need to give viktor time to keep improving an already stellar plugin. The improvements to mass round and UCS this time around have been a godsend.

Agreed - The work I am doing is very much what another Land Planner or Architect would do so the tools would not just serve me but be atractive to others in the industry - IMHO.

CAD is all about precision and being able to document your drawings so they can pass permitting and be built to spec. With the added tangent extention Viktor will have a even more broadly and specifically marketable package.
