Hi all,

I am involved in using the Tricaster pro for live events but we are looking at a way at getting tally lights to 3 cameras.

I know the pro does not have the facilty but is there any other options out there that might work.

Thanks

Wow - no tally lights? I've been lurking for a couple weeks, considering a TC purchase, but tally light support is pretty essential. Does the broadcast version support this? XD300? There's got to be a way.

TC Studio and Broadcast both support tally lights for Program row selection. TCXD tally support is designed for red/green/amber for Program, Preview and 'both'.

i am working within a technology college so i have had one of the electronics teachers to have a look and we are thinking of taking a signal from within the controller, using the live button. so it would go to 3 jack sockets on the rear of the unit then send to each camera with a light on each camera.

jcupp,

how exactly does the controller work? does it sit between the tricaster and controller, thus picking up the signal from the controller via usb?

That is slick. Very cool idea. I would be interested in this.
Question: The three LED's are for the camera man to know status but I am confused when reading your web page about the talent tally light. Is that on the front of the unit so the talent only sees a red LED when the camera is live but the three in the back are for the camera man to know if it is live, preview or FX? Or do I need to purchase an additional Talent Tally Light?
Oh and to be clear, it would give me tally lights on my TriCaster Pro, right?

Forget question one. I read the tally light unit and it has everything. The controller has the ability to use a cameras tally light if it already has one, right?

What a great idea! I'll be checking on progress and waiting for reviews.

Here's a question for you if it makes sense -- We have some facilities (i.e. stadiums) that are pre-wired with additional BNC and/or XLR cables, and running another Cat-5 is not an (easy) option. Do you think there is any way we can use your tally box and through adaptors/some custom cable work, run a signal down some of this existing cable and connect to one of your on-camera tally units, even if we could only use Program and had to sacrifice the tally for preview, effects, and the intercom channels?

Does this require a separate software app to run, and is it compatible with all VT/Tricaster systems?

Thanks!

The controller plugs into the USB port and uses a combination of ToasterScript and custom software running on the machine to monitor the status of the switcher buses.

On the actual Tally light three LEDs face the camera operator and a fourth large LED faces the "Talent". This fourth LED can be set in software to illuminate when the camera is on the Program bus, Effects bus, either bus or can be disabled.

The Tally light can be used with the existing tally connectors on the TriCaster Studio and Broadcast but it only illuminates when the input is on the main bus. If you use our controller you get all the features.

The controller can either use our tally lights or can be connected to a CCU with contact closure connections to use tally lights built into the camera. In this case we support program and preview tally.

It would be pretty easy to adapt to an existing cable plant using punch down blocks etc. This is one of the reasons we went with the cat5/RJ45 wiring scheme. The three operator tallies only need two pairs. If you just need program tally a single pair will suffice. It's all DC so interference isn't an issue.

The controller and software is compatible with any TriCaster with 2.0 or better (probably works with older versions but it is untested) and VT 3 or better.

This all seems complicated because we attempted to make the controller and lights flexible so you can use them in almost any situation. I'll try to get some documentation up ASAP.

What happens when you connect the Tally light directly to the TCXD300? Do the additional LEDs function?

Thanks Ted. I did take a look at your site. I'm just evaluating the differences between your product and the one from Digital Arts. Ted, does your product come with the standoff shown in the photo and does that attach to the hot shoe adaptor for mounting?

Yes it has a stand off and mounts in the hot shoe.

The talent side of the light can be turned off but the cameraman side led will be on when the camera is live.

It is a direct plugin to the tally port on the Tricaster Studio, and Broadcast system.

Any other questions please call or email me.

If you need an opinion, Email Paul Lara at Newtech. Newteck is using them in their studio.

I can't find a good manual to show me the outputs on the Sony Rm-BR300

Are you a Sony BRC-300 Camera??

What switcher are you using ??

If you have a manual for the RM-BR300 email me the pages about the tally port output.
