Hi Everyone! :)
Okay, I think I know what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure.
I think I'm looking for some way to "scale down" my entire scene. As in make everything in the scene 1/100th the size, and locate everything 1/100th its original distance from the origin. (And all textures 1/100th their original scale come to think of it)
Here's why I think I'm looking for that: I want a comet to go around the Sun and spew particles, then have those particles continue to move in a curve around the Sun (as gravity pulls on them).
My problem is that my fully constructed scene is quite large (in terms of scale), and whenever I try to calculate Gravity's affect on the particles the calculation starts taking forever !
I did a little experimenting on this. The first movie attachment is more or less what I'm looking for. In that test scene, the comet moves about 40 meters in 10 seconds. The dynamics calculation took place in almost real time.
The second movie attachment is identical to the first, except that the comet moves about 4,000 meters in 10 seconds. The dynamics calculation for this took 15 to 20 minutes. Plus, as you can see, the particles no longer did what I wanted so I have to play around with the Gravity settings even more... and everytime I do it's another 15 to 20 minutes.
Therefore, I think what I'm really after is a way to scale down my entire scene such that the Gravity & Particle Calculations become reasonable. Does anybody know any way to do this??? Or does anyone have any alternate suggestions??? (My actual scene is rather complicated so I'm really hoping there's a plugin for this!!!)
Any and all commets/questions/concerns/criticisms/witty remarks would be welcome!!! :)
