To get something like http://www.streamingfaith.com/community/straighttalk.aspx?bhcp=1

Seems easy, but I want to hit the ground running, the live sets seem too network tv style for me. I just want to do something simple like above, maybe a monitor on the wall with a live pip for graphics.

Read the manual?

The sets that come with the TriCaster are in several different styles, to give you an idea of the overall capabilities of the system. TriCaster sets are totally customizable, and you can certainly build them yourself from scratch. Shrox's answer on the other hand offers no real information. Reading the manual will do nothing much toward helping you create a custom set.

The compiler for creating custom sets if a free download from NewTek's website, but it requires additional software, such as Aura Video Paint, or LightWave 3D. ( Both of which ship with the TriCaster's big brother; the VT5 ) Creating your own set's also requires familiarity with one or both of these programs.

If you want to continually build different virtual sets, investing the time in learning LightWave is the way to go. On the other hand, since you want to " hit the ground running" you might consider having an additional custom set build for you by one of the many people who I'm sure will pipe in and offer their services.

There is an additional package of additional sets available from NewTek, but these are sports oriented.

Hope this helps,

Bob Anderson

Reading the manual will do nothing much toward helping you create a custom set.True - just to mention it, though, the individual plugins for aura and LW are accompanied by their own documentation, and should suffice to answer most questions about the use of the tools.

The backgrounds used by Streaming Faith look like the ones from the old Play Trinity (Globecaster) with the 'talent' in front of a green screen

"Just bought a TC, Tell me what I have to do..."

Put it back in the box, squish it full of styrofoam peanuts... and SEND IT TO ME!

Or...
Create you own sets.

Two of my favorite motion graphics instructors have a mountain of material on creating alpha channels and motion tracking.
That's everything you need to punch an alpha hole through a photo of a setting that you like, or pin a B-roll over a photo of a monitor or plasma.

And Andrew Kramer here:

No matter how much these guys give away, they never worry about too much compitition because they will alway be ahead of the pack.
...smart guys...
