We have been asked to do a talk show with a host and 2-3 guests. We want to use a virtual set utilizing TriCaster's LiveSet capabilities.

The thing I've noticed is that almost every single TriCaster set I have ever seen has a desk in front of the people. The one we are thinking of using would have 2-3 sofa-style chairs on the green screen.

Does it work to have the people "out in the open"? What are the biggest differences between having a desk or table in front of the talent and having them on chairs on an open stage?

Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions!

Check out VirtualSetworks.com

Eric has several versions to choose from.

If you need specific adjustments he can also do that for you at a very reasonable cost.
He has done some great work for one of my clients COX in Baton Rouge. They are doing talk shows with exactly the same setup you mentioned.

Hi Jef,

Thanks for the info. We have used sets from the site you mentioned. We currently use designs from Virtualsets.com. They are more expensive, but they they tend look much more realistic. Our clients are typically willing to pay the extra (sometimes 2-4x).

That's not the purpose of my question, though. I really want to know whether the wide shots will look good without a desk. Is there enough resolution to do good medium shots, when the camera is zoomed out so much for the wide shots?

Sure. There are at least two LiveSets for full standing anchors, head-to-toe.
Remember, it's far easier to eliminate pixels and down-res.
