Hello All;
I have a question for the folks who do professional editing.

I have VT5 as well as a stand alone version of SpeedEdit.

I am incorporating a video from TV into a DVD production. This was actually a very important video so I actually recorded it two ways, Using a HDTV capture card in my computer, and onto DVD using a DVD recorder.

There is something wrong with both of them and I am trying to determine the best way to solve my problems and make a clean final production.

Version 1 was recorded directly to the computer using a HDTV capture card but the audio and video are out of sync by probably a few frames or so for some reason.

Version 2 was recorded to DVD but there is some text (My caller ID, actually) at the bottom of the screen I need to get rid of.

In version 1 would you recommend I shift the audio/video a bit to fix the problem or should I use some sort of lower-thirds or revealer to cover up the caller ID with more useful text? Or would you suggest something different with version 1 or version 2 ?

I had thought about using a combination of the two clips to replace video that has the caller ID text but that won't work because both clips are different formats.

Thanks for any insight/ideas you can provide.

Tim

Easiest will probably be shifting the audio from version 1 to get it in synch.

Do you have to edit it much after synching it? If so, split the tracks (highlight the audio, then unlock the audio from video) and reposition the audio track until they are in synch, then select both the adudio and video tracks and hit the subproject button. This will combine the two clips into a subrproject, which can be easily cut up and moved about without worry of de-synching them.

Billmi's right, that's the best way.

But why does your recorder record them out of sync? That's important to fix. I once installed a delay on a mixboard to handle a permanent delay i had that was introduced by some video geart on the chain, sound always got there forsi, so I delayed it for ever recording, everything was fine after that.
