View Full Version : 64 bit license key

I did a quick search and didn't find anything, so my apologies if this is already answered somewhere.
I unfortunately haven't had much (any) time to play with Lightwave 3d since I first bought 9.0. I haven't downloaded any updates, but am in the process of moving to a new Windows 7 machine that will be 64bit.
My hope is to download the latest build (9.6 I think?) and activate the license. But the support center says that a different key will be required for 64 bit than the 32 bit version. What do I need to do in order to get an updated key? I'm hoping to find more time to create and animate this year and would like to have Lightwave installed and ready when the time allows.
Thanks!

Each version of Lightwave you download must be registered. So, just like you registered your 32-bit version, register your 64-bit version, and you'll be assigned a new 64-bit key in your My Products area.

Since I only have one license, do I need to unregister my 32 bit key first somehow to transfer it?
Perhaps not, as long as the dongle is on my new machine, right?

You can have both the 32-bit and 64-bit products registered to you. I've got both versions on my 64-bit machine. I primarily use 32-bit Modeler because there are more 32-bit plugins available. Then, come render time, I can chooses to use 32-bit or 64-bit Layout, depending on memory and/or plugin requirements.

Do you have the latest sentinel driver version?
If not try downloading and installing it. Either from registration or from the producers website (Latest version is here: http://www.safenet-inc.com/Support_and_Downloads/Download_Drivers/Sentinel_Drivers.aspx )

Hi,
I am having licensing problems as well. I re-registered and got a new license and type it
into the registration utility. It says accepted but when I reopen LW it is still in discovery
mode. I'm moving from Windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit.
I opened the license key file with notepad and it is definitely not the one I was given.
It would not let me type the new one in either.
So many thanks for a suggestion here.

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly Megalodon!
I opened the license file in the Program files....pasted in the new license key but when I go to save it I get this dialogue. License key already exists, Do you want to replace it? If I say no it wont save anything. If I say yes it comes up with a dialogue box that says ANSI encoding and when I try to save it says access denied.
Just got Windows 7 so I'm not sure what all this means.
But Thank you!!!!!!

Downloaded 9.6 64-bit
got a new License Key (64-bit)
Installed latest Safenet Sentinel drivers
Tried layout>help>enter license. Tried making the file myself. Tried using the registration utility. Upon opening the file to assure key is correct, it is, in each instance.
keep getting license key error "Your license key was not found"
Running windows 7 64-bit.
any more ideas...? thanks everyone.

Problem solved!!! Thank you Newtek support!
For those of you running into the license key not happening problem.
Here is one solution:
You have to move the file out of the folder to your desktop. (For example go to the Newtek program files and drag the license.key file to the desktop) Then edit it. (I had to open it with notepad) Type in your new license, then move it back to the Newtek program file. Looks like you have to be the administrator on the computer to do this. The problem is caused by windows security
Wouldn't ya know.
Thanks all!!

It's down to UAC not allowing user modification of the Program Files directory and was the same problem with Vista.
