While totally reformating and resetting ( for drive sizes actually needed for software) partitions, 4.1 software goes thru total install fine, but upon software check, many files missing, and really aren't there.
then when I try to load 4.2 it never gets past decompressing from the floppy and goes into a guru error.
Checked the FAQ on your site and nothing I could find about this.
But did find mention of 5.0???
ANy help that someone can think of?
And is there a printable version of the Faqs?
Thanks

I've become somewhat adept with Amiga T/F's over the years, but I've never seen that problem or had a problem installing 4.2.
But if you can't get it to work, try this. Create the directory ram:NNTemp/system yourself then try the install again.
Maybe that'll do it.

Yea I know,me neither in 10 years with the same Amiga, has this ever happened.
I figured it was time to do some major house cleaning after all this time, and it's the first time I did a full reload in over 7 years.
Was surprised it has actually ran this long without it.
I guess the old saying "if it ain't broke....":)
It's the first time the floppies have seen the inside of the computer in all this time.
Will give your suggestion a shot.
Thanks

OK tried this
Made a rad drive 7 megs
copied over the 4.2 floppy
renamed the rad to 4.2a_Disk1
ran the installer
crashed
decompressed the lha files to the rad drive
ran installer
loaded fine now :)
but:mad:
not pointing to the correct drive
partitioned drive to volume named TOASTER
ed s shows
;begin flyer
assign REXX: Toaster:Newtek/arexx add
assign TOASTER: Toaster:Newtek add
assign HIIP: Toaster:Newtek/Programs/HIIP_Support
c:FlyerInit Toaster:Newtek/Programs/Flyer_Support
:End Flyer
This sure seems right
Have reformatted all drives 4 times now and each time , same results
Pointing wrong

Found the Faq for the Amiga :)
IS this downloadable in a PDF format?
re-formatted all again and changed the name to HD1 (as toaster is a no-no)
loaded as above (rad drive)
TADA
all ok for loading and pointing to right drive
but as the Faq stated my files are there but 'check software '
can't find them. ARRRGGGGGG
I didn't go thru this 7 years ago when I loaded it then.

The "check software" utility is useless. It was first done for version 4.0 when it was important for certain files to be in certain places, along with checking for the Flyer's serial number. Version 4.1 and up, IIRC, checked the Flyer's serial number automatically, and the "check software" utility wasn't updated.
IOW, don't pay any attention to "check software" in versions above 4.0, it's not accurate.
As for a PDF, I don't think one was ever created.
It would be wise to join the VTFML on yahoogroups for the best advice.

Well got it installed now
Don't remember doing all this last time I did it, but
manually went in and copied everything from CD or 4.2 floppy to where the old files(where it said they weren't) and now check software says all is ok, and it is up and running again
WHEW !!!
can someone point me to the files that were at onetime out for the Video drive cashes?
there use to be a list of known good cashe files that we could download and use if we had the same drives.
Looked on FTP site and nothing was there.
