Hi, I need some help to create an animation that is in the style of the image below. How do I achieve this effect? Do I use objects with motion blur or particles or something else? Does anyone know of a tutorial?

thanks for your help!

Try googling 3d Recursions or look for aurora's plugins. Flam 3d will do it as well

first of all, does it need to be full 3d?

otherwise as mentioned, the flame plugin for after effects can do very similar things, and of course
chaosscope..it looks like the render you shown are done in chaosscope.
both these are free to use..

Hereīs some links for you...flame for after effects, itīs free.

chaosscope...free.

I donīt think you can get the same quality in particle amount with
Tim dunns plugin thou, unless youré on a 64 bit machine, and even then I dontīknow.

attractor plugin for lightwave..free!!

you could also look for trapcodes plugins for after effects, particular and form.

dont know if fusion has something similar, they probably have thou.

I wouldnīt try this out with particles in lightwave since you would need crazy amounts of particles for it.
Using 3d max and krakatoa can get stunning results but itīs not nativly
setup as fractals.

I have done some experimental stuff in Lightwave using displaced geometry and applying
hypervoxels sprites on that with decent results, but not fully satisfied with it.

you can see how that looks over here.

some basic info on how I do that is over at this thread..Im phamarus over there.
