Hey Everyone,
I'd just like to announce that the LWCAD Training for the Robie Home Ext. has been released!!! Whew...
I'd first like to thank you for your support and patience. This was obviously a much more in-depth endeavor then anticipated. As I mentioned before in a previous newsletter, this is over 11 hours for just the home portion. So the the support and patience was very much appreciated.
I will be adding the bonus/practical uses of LWCAD 3.1 tools training in the coming weeks free of charge with paid purchase of the training.
Please visit the site for more information and how to purchase the training: http://www.genesis1studios.com/lwcad_training.html
Note: I've added categories for purchasing on the site to account for the coupons Viktor issued for those that upgraded or purchased new lic. of LWCAD during that promotion. Please include the coupon code in the notes section of your PayPal purchase.
Thanks again so much.

Larry, I have just tried to purchase using the "Buy now" link, but it just takes me to the Paypal front page? Am I doing something wrong?
Regards,
David
Same here, but it looks like we might have to wait from paypal:
"Pardon our virtual dust. We're hammering out some improvements to our site, so parts of PayPal.com won't be available from 11:00 PM PDT to 1:00 AM PDT."

If the button is not working please use PayPal's manual method of sending payment. Just send it to the training e-mail (lwcad_training@genesis1studios.com) with the correct amount.

I'm on video 4, and I've already learned a few funky things about certain tools or just general ways of doing things I'll be doing next time I have the chance to play around.
Larry's voice and way of telling is comfortable and easy to follow, and I think I'll enjoy the next 11 hours of the training with both thumbs up.
There are of course some things I do my own way, but this is really getting me in a better position to blast off into future projects. :) THANK YOU Larry!

Hey, right on Ola. Thanks, I appreciate that. The beginning was a bit slower start for me too, so hopefully it'll just get better. Thanks again. By the way, you were first sale.

Hey Larry,
I just finished downloaded everything and this is going to be sweet. I know, cuz I peeked. To be able to "look over your shoulder" while you tackle a project like this is going to be very informative and a great teaching tool. A super value and with more bonus LWCAD 3.1 tips to come for those who have purchased this, a serious deal for all of us who have got on board!
Now I better go to bed! :) Thanks!

What I've had to do (and it's changed on the page now), is just do things manually. So just log in to PayPal, select the 'Make Payment' tab, put in my e-mail address shown on the site, and put in the correct payment. If you got a coupon during the promotion with Viktor (which has sense expired) please put in the coupon code in the notes on check out.

Is there another way to purchase? I don't have a Paypal account.

Is there another way to purchase? I don't have a Paypal account.Right now I don't know of another way, particularly for someone outside the US. Is there a reason for not using PayPal, it's free? If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

For me PayPal can't accept credit card from Sudan (becuase theres a political issue between USA and Sudan)
Is there anthor option for buy with Direct Credit Card?

I paid by paypal too. What is not clear is exactly what would happen next. I have reread these posts on this thread twice and no one ever says how they got the video files! Will someone please list the exact steps they did?

There is IBAN:) I have made a transaction to someone in the UK that way once. You could obtain your banks IBAN number and provide that along with your own account number (you could set up a separate utility account for this) to Fadlabi. Then Fadlabi needs to make an IBAN-transaction through a bank he/she trusts. Takes a few days, I think.

I'm sure many of you have scene the recent newsletter featuring Viktor of LWCAD. One of the things that didn't make it to the newsletter was a promotion coupon for my training with purchases of upgrades and/or new lic. Check his site for details: http://www.wtools3d.com/
It's a significant reduction, but is good only till Feb. Happy New Year!

Now it would be nice to see the last two remaining tutorials - lighting and landscaping - finally finished. I'm not getting any younger. :twak:I'll see what I can find out.

Larry,
I've finally had a chance to spend some time with the training, and I'm finding it very educational. The production quality is fine, pacing is excellent, and the training generally "focuses in" on all the issues where I have questions.
I've only run into two issues thus far, and they're both pretty minor:
I've run across a few times when fast movement in the viewport results in a pixellated display from compression artifacts, and the discussed actions are taken before the display "stabilizes", making it a bit difficult to see precisely what was done. I'd view an action two or three times, because the first was spent figuring out where the action occurred, then the next spent trying to see precisely what occurred.
In the future, when rapidly moving the viewport (esp. when zoomed in), it'd be nice if you could wait a bit before taking the action. It'll let the display stabilize, and give viewers a chance to find the cursor, etc. Likewise, avoid immediately doing huge pans right after doing something, it causes the same problem (due to the compression's forward-compensation).
Examples: Video 4 of set 1 has a couple cases where you'll move drastically then quickly extend a line or rectangle, or vice versa, look around 00:09:25 or so for an example.
I've run into a couple videos where volume levels were much louder than the other videos. Not a big deal, just a bit of a shock when it happens. Were a few of them either re-voiced, or had you using different mic than you did for most of them?
Example: Video 5 of set 1 has audio much louder than the preceding video.
Both are minor issues, and massively outweighed by the overall quality of production and editing. I just do a fair amount of editing myself, noticed them, and figured you'd want to be told about them.
BTW, are those custom LW colors? I really like the extra contrast between the window background and buttons, and some of the other color choices. Any chance you'd be willing to post that part of your LW config?
Thanks again for an excellent training product! I highly recommend it!

Thanks again for an excellent training product! I highly recommend it!I really appreciate the complements and the time you took to post it. As for the minor issues you mentioned on the video compression, it was a very tough balance to get good quality and decently small file size. I still have the original captures so if anyone has got a decent arrangement for compression I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Thanks. Thanks for the compliments. And thanks for inquiring/reminding me on this. I had put it off because there was some additions I wanted to make with the release of 3.2 and then 3.5. But now that 3.5 is out, I've got no more excuses. I'll be getting back on it and try to release it soon.

I just upgraded from LWCAD 2.x to 4. It's been a while since I used it and although the tools are not difficult to use it's always interesting to see other's workflows and how they put the tools to good use.
Do you have any plans on updating the tutorial taking LWCAD v4 in consideration? Or do you plan to maybe do a brand new one using LWCAD v4?
If not, since v4 has apparently quite a few workflow differences, how easy would it be for "new" users to translate what's shown in the videos to follow them using the new LWCAD v4 workflow and tools?
Thanks.

Hope you do find the time Larry. The essence of your work approach is still valid even if some of the tools have now been updated.
With the new tiling tools in LWCad 4.1, I'm toying with the idea of revisiting the Robie House again. I was really hoping the texturing tuts were going to come about as I didn't put too much effort in those areas beyond the basic naming & some attributes.
I'd really like someone to show me how to get great brick work with nodes and displacements.
