Anyone who's ever tried using the "Private Messages" feature of this forum would have run into the warning that your message is too long.

Text doesn't take up much hard drive space. Surely there's enough space on Newtek's server to handle messages of 2000 text characters.

You need to switch yourself out of 'verbose' mode :)

Thanks, Darth Mole. I didn't realize that is the reason I can't use more than 1000 characters. I'll switch myself over to verbose mode immediately.

I think this limitation is not due to Newtek's server
but to the building of the forum.
There's a limitaiton in PM in all the forums built like this.

Maybe if you ask Chuck nicely he will increase it to 3000 characters :)

For private messages the length limit is now 3000 characters and checking the message length reports the limit correctly. I take it then, Riki, that you, are talking about the length limit for a public post, which is currently set at 10,000 characters. When you say you tested it and it's not the case, do you mean you couldn't get it to accept as many as 10,000 characters or that it will exceed 10,000 characters?

EDIT: Uuuuggh I'm sure I lost the plot on this thread.

Chuck while your here, is it possible to change the forums so that we can delete our own posts? Currently the delete option isn't working.

Yes, thank you Chuck! I've run into this limit a couple of times. Regardless of text being small and easy to store, this forum has 20,000+ members with quite a bit of traffic. NewTek really is quite generous to allow increased message lengths, and the freedom of uploading images.

All this, and they don't make us look at banners. Thanks NewTek!
