Im working on an old west town. I need to add lots more detail- some more houses and stuff. Any thoughts on what I can add?
Thanks

Nice.
Well, it's a very clean and tidy building and area. I would add some various debris, old boards, a well or water pump of some kind and some old fencing or something.

It has a great feel to it so far...I love the textures!!
Maybe you can add some kind of large machinery that's falling apart..with lots of rust etc.

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the comments!
Good ideas. I'll see what I can add soon. Maybe an old tractor to model and some debris. Shouldn't be that hard I guess... make it lowpoly and stick it in the background.
I've had lots of fun with hypervoxels, first time I tried bushes... Some guy did a desert scene a few years ago that looked great...cant remember his name...? Any Ideas?

Just added an old water pump.
This shot is closer in on the ground. It's time for bed so I
just rendered a lores version of it.
Will add some machinery tommorow.

A wooden/barb-wire fence would break things up nicely... see the new textures from NewTek ;)
If it is contemporary, a car wreck would be nice too... though difficult...
Telephone poles...
A windmill next to the pump... One made of a skeletal structure...
Rolling bush... eh tumbleweed, I guess... ;)
Perhaps a train track...
I have to stop.. ;)

My suggestion, anything that old never has all of the roofing or siding on the house, maybe remove some of them and make it look tore up.
Maybe you should clear a path at the front at the moment all the ground cover looks very even.
Well I gots lots of work to do I guess. :)
Ill get some stuff done today and post more...
Hows it goin RJ? Hows business?

it's looking nice, specifically the textures.. is that vulture poo on the roof..?
on a more serious note however, the buildings seem more like a model to me as there is no visible, or even hint of a foundation or piles.. there would at the very least be some sort of crawl space beneath the buildings.. the crawl space could be covered with the siding material but the floors would not be at ground level and you'd see this on the exterior.. just my 2 cents..
great work so far though and keep it up.. i'd really like to see some sort of walk-through animation when you're done..
Slow updating....
Here's the scene with some poles and wires added.
Yep, its vulture poo on the roof:) kinda big tho now that I look at it. Must be big bird. :)
I will add more today and post.
Thanks for the comments everyone.

Heres an update...
I added some planks, old tires, and an outhouse. :)
I changed the lighting a little as well. Some more edits coming today.
Thanks,

Looks much better up close. For some reason, the further shots (all except the last pic) look like miniatures to me. Very nice lighting and texturing though.

Hey thanks guys.
I added some trees. Theres also some animated (fluff ? Not sure what to call it in the air).
I will animate it soon. I may add some more detail first.
Thanks,
-Brent-
Added a few new things. A few trees and some MAD COW!
Im working on a few new animals as well. Gonna put in some mountains as well.
-Brent-
looks unreal...the lighting seems a bit odd to me in some shots..i'm not sure y???
Added a little piglet.
Will work on some other stuff today.
WIll work on the DOF as well. :)

Very nice!!!
As mentioned before... some sort of depression/path leading to the door would be good... perhaps bordered with some stones or stuff... Would look a bit like the tracks as well... and you would expect a bit of a path to the outhouse as well ;)
Ah, yes... one wire could go from the nearest phone-poll to the shack...
Well, heres an update. I totally changed the mood. I got tired of looking at the same colors so I thought...lets go with winter....
also atted some path stones, etc.
will add some train peices later I think.
-Brent-
Working at it....
I think it might be adaptive sampling threshold.

The road seems a little narrow, or the cow too big. I love the lighting, modelling, and texturing, though. The road, or the cow are out of proportion (I think it's the cow).

This is really great! How did you d the snow?
It does look a little like miniatures - kinda like stop motion - very, very nice - *real miniatures* not CG.
Radiosity?

Really nice work. I can't tell what period this is supposed to be set in. What's the date?
Also, I would say that the layout of things is very impractical (and unlikely). The whole thing has a nice (stop-motion) feel about it though.
Paul
Heres a collage of some updates. Thanks for the comments guys.
The snow is basically a mixture of procedurals with a bump map for the roads and a black and white road map set to alpha. The white in the alpha channel acts as the white snow. Radiosity with a blue gadient background gives the snow shading a nice blue. A little bit of blue white fog helps to give the appearance of depth, a snow particle system to add to the noise, and I always lower the color saturation in the processing panel. It helps blend the composition together by dulling the colors a bit. (I find most things CG to be too saturated) if going for realism.
The lighting is just basically radiosity with a distant light around 280%... This helps blow out the lighting. I also add a fill light to the dark shadow areas to enhance the radiosity color effect from the background. (in this case Blue). The gradient backdrop is mostly white in the last images.... but I keep blue at the top of the gradient (Not in the final render) to help the blue snow effect.
This make any sense? :)

I think the area around the wagon is a little cluttered compared to the rest of the scene. I mean if there was a whole lot more junk around the building then it would look ok (like Sanford & Son). I really like how this is progressing. Also, like you said earlier, adding mountains or maybe sky stuff (sun, clouds, etc.) would help with overall scale. A few huddled birds on the wires (in the snow versions) would be cool.
Hey thanks. Im havin a real busy weekend so...I'll post more in a few days.
