Over the last few days I have been following (fairly loosely) the head modelling tutorial in Dan Ablan's "Inside LightWave 7". It's very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd do a few test renders to see what it looked like. The textures are just place holders for now and the model needs a little fine tuning (I'm about to do the ears), but I wondered if any of you could offer any comments/suggestions about the model. :)

Many thanks in advance. Here's one of the test renders, but I'll post a wireframe view when I've taken a screenshot:

I have that book too, the tutorial looks promising, but im having alot of trouble. For example, its quite hard to use a 2d reference to model 3d: eg: When i model the eyes, it tells me to bend it, i dont know how far to bend because its a 2d image, and i cant bend "around" the it, do you know what i mean? Eg, to make the bridge of the nose, i dont know how far to bend because i cant bend around the reference image.

This often leads to inner side of the eye to go to deep, ect. Im sorry to spam your thread, but i was surprised we were working on the same tut, and hoped i could get some advice on this.

Thanks for the encouragement, artmarci :) As you can see from the pic below, I've added ears and altered the face slightly.

Xeen: Bending the eyelids gave me a bit of trouble to begin with, but I ended up bending each half of the eyelid object by the same amount*. I used the part of the eye that you can see as a guide and the eyeball from the first part of the tut. For the bridge of the nose I used the reference, but also used a mirror to look at my own nose. It takes a fair bit of fiddling about though.

* I don't think the tear duct and eye corner are aligned though. After looking at my own eye, the eye corner is a little further back than the tear duct.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

thanks, that was some good advice, ill try again, but can you do me a favour? If your not too busy, can you circle (or tell me) which part of the eye you selected when bending? Like which pollies, cause i dont really know. the book is pretty vague about that part.

I tried selecteing the tip, i tried the whole half of the eye, ect lol...

I've put a few images on a mini-site to illustrate the polys I used for the bend. It took me a few goes with different selections to get a nice bend though. Anyhoo, here's the link:

The first 2 pics represent the bend towards the eye corner, and the second 2 represent the bend towards the tear duct/nose bridge.

Hope this helps :)
