This is my latest project, and my first car........a ferrari 360 modena

not very original i know but its such a great looking car i couldnt resist.

the main bulk of the mesh is almost finished, as you can see but its the little details that are getting to me now.

i need to put 4 circular lights on the back and a little air intake on the side. what do you think

Hey! Nice work so far, Do not settle for less than what you can give to your project. Keep pushing/pulling vertices around and adjusting point weights until you get what you really want. Try Metaform also, it takes into account more information than metaforming it with tab. I should know specifically, but I do not.. LOL. Hopefully someone will jump on this thread and educate us.

Although I am pretty sure metaforming it does NOT look at the point weights?

Nice choice in forms to model, I think the 360 is designed by ?Gigario? and it sure is a beautiful automobile.

Good luck and have phun!

Thanks buddy

thats a quick reply :D

You're right about the mesh, it does need a lot of tweaking, at the moment, apart from the smooth shifted intakes, its pretty much just the meshes straight from the splines i traced off the blueprint. I need to get my drag tool and a spline guide to smooth some areas out.

I did this in about a day and a half so theres a lot more work to do but ive been weighting it as i go to get the nice creases in the bodywork (i had to turn on smoothing because i am still working with unfrozen subpatches so you cant really see them but they are there)

heres a quick update

im still having trouble with the vents and lights at the back end

ive tried booleans and drills but because its a subpatch model im not having too much joy, any master modelers want to give me any tips or critiques on what i have already

thanks

Please do not take my last message as if I was grading your work, you have a very nice base structure to work with. I just was sharing how I usually feel about my work... Don't think of time constrants or what anyone else thinks. Just try to push yourself for "perfection."

Some information about techniques I have used in the past to achieve smooth entities that have smooth transitions.

I will (at some time(s)) while modeling TAB it to a Level of ONE which seems to introduce part of the metanurb algo onto the model without any subdivisions. Hince it smooths it and considers surface direction changes as it smooths, unlike SMOOTH. I use SMOOTH also with lots of instances and really low strength settings. One caveat I am not sure of though (cause I have not tried it with the new LW) I am not sure when MetaNurbing at a level of ONE if it keeps point weight information intact or not.

One more tid-bit. Frozen MetaMeshes look different (sometimes better) than the un-frozen representations that are shown before freezing. HINCE, freeze it a check it ever so often.

have phun modeling dude.

GlasseFX

Thanks again bro

I didnt take your last post the wrong way....i came here for advice after all.

You're right about freezing though, i rendered and got a much better reuslt on the areas i've weighted already, at the moment ive got smoothing on the surface editor and this is taking something away from those areas

also when frozen i can boolean the lights from the back panel.

i need to smooth out the subpatch mesh more (as you can see there are imperfections all over the body) before i freeze though because all those tiny polys have gotta be impossible to tweak

im gunna play about with metanurbs now to see what i can do, i usually use subpatches only so i may well be back here real soon for some training;)

Hey sub-patches and metanurbs are the same thing (NT changed the name from 5.6 to 6. Metaform may be new to you though.

You want to make sure you have the body "tit's" before moving on to booleans I would think. Your right all that mesh density is not fun to work with for any length of time. Save like every 5 minutes or so because 10 days down the road you may realize you have been traveling in the wrong direction.

good luck dude!
