FPS display in Layout

Is there a way to display the Frames Per Second in Layout when watching animation playbacks? I know it won't be realtime 24 or 30 fps, but I'd like to know what I'm seeing.

Object properties -> Add Custom Object -> Frame Rate meter

Just add it to a null or existing object.

Why need a object (null) to show fps and others stuffs. Newtek could insert option like box dialog or drop menu in viewport to active it. I think that is a bit more logic.
