I am a CG student, but our class has not covered the concept of spline modeling characters yet. Are there any good step-by-step tutorial sites out there that could help a beginner get their bearings with the method?
Thanks in advance.

Personally I wouldn't use splines to build characters but you may want to check with Splinegod here on the boards. I think he a tutorial on it or two.

For character modeling when I do use splines I use them as a general layout tool to get a good basic SubD cage. I find that it generally requires less tweaking up front and much easier to trace over good background rerfence. I would never use splines for detailing since there are much better/faster/easier ways to do that.
Heres some free videos:

Drop me a line if youre interested in some very in depth tutorials
on modeling heads/characters etc using splines. :)
