Hi,

This is my first render and it is an attempt at photorealism. I really have no idea what I am doing as far as rendering goes. I have wanted to learn modeling first and then when I felt comfortable, attempt texturing and rendering and then rigging and animating.

Well, I am starting to feel fairly confident in my modeling so, I tried to render. I really do not understand all that is associated with rendering and I just fumbled around with all of the controls trying to teach myself. This is my result.

Let me know what you think.

I also need to put the little Oakly test on the upper portion of the nose. How should I accomplish this? If people are going to mention alphas, could you break it down, because I do not understand these.

Thanks!

Looks good to me...but you should have used a higher image compression 70% plus.

Well I'm not sure if it's not te compression of the pic as it's really too high as
Kuzey said but it seems the image used for the map of the wood is too small (mean its definition is not high enough for such a close view), what is its resolution ?

Other thing is that this wood need to be textured in specular and bump channels,
here it looks too much like a mapping.

Last I don't understand this kind of "sun" reflection in the glass (right eye), why
is it so shinny ?

Apart this it's pretty good for a first attempt, the chroma texture of the glasses
looks great.

PS : just little advice - at the opposite of what you could think it may be easier to
make "photorealist" teste with a bit more objects in your scene. I'd add few of them if I was you - realism of a scene is oftenly got by the "relations" between objects, reflections and shadows in between them, see what I mean ?
Plus it's a better way to learn the technics of rendering in 3D as just fighting with
one object like this may do that you miss large parts of the soft and also that you
do mistakes…

Someone else is a fan of Oakleys too? :) http://www.the-cow.net/focused/show.php?id=18

Getting the lenses to look right can get really nasty, I didn't get the lens surface surface right in my renders either.. Otherwise the surfaces look good, except the issues others mentioned already. Test different camera angles as well!
