would someone point me a special workflow on this?
I have a simple background character for a game and I intend to sell this model in turbosquid. I know I could just export the model as LWO file with UV textures, but how about another format? 3DS, OBJ, perhaps?
I can export the models, but I have no idea how the UV maps will behave.

How should I export the model so that the buyer can then use the UV map on it, with say, 3ds format?

I often see UV textures in these models portrayed as a single image, a sort of like atlas image. Those models are usually from Max. Is there a special secret to this with Lightwave?

Try it, that is the best way to find out.

Indeed, trying it out works best.

Normally UV-maps and .3ds aren't a problem in my experience. Although overlapping UV's could proof problematic at times.

Use the D-Storm 3ds export plugin(found on http://www.flay.com), and it automatically saves the textures as well.

Good luck!

Thanks! The D-Storm plugin is promising. I must ask my contact here in Japan who works for D-Storm, and who was probably involved in developing it.

OBJ, 3DS , FBX/Collada and LWO. Good formats, and you cover every major (and almost all minor) applications out there.

The LW OBJ export is MUCH better now, and I can rely on it. Every app can import OBJ, it's been around for ages. I go from LW to ZBrush to Maya often and OBJ is all I use.
