Softimage is going to have fluid sim in the next version going by this.
I hope CORE can keep up with the rest

I think its not reasonable to expect stuff like this right now. Core major benefit at this stage will obviously be enhanced modeling on top of everything that Lightwave 9 has to offer. Its about time too, no love to modeling for a long time.

I think it is, CORE will be the newest 3d app out there when it is released and if it dosnt have all the features of other apps and more then it could be classed as a epic fail.

Didn't you say in another forum that Lightwave is an app that is in its way out?
Don't worry, then. :)

Yep i did and it is, but core is a different beast alltogether and that is why when its released it needs to blow people away, if all it can do is model then its in trouble. Im not intending on bashing Newtek, i started with lightwave, and i really want to see it do well, but i am worred about its future enough so i have stopped using it for now but hope to pick up core when its released if it is up to it.

That's just silly, Lightwave is still perfectly usable and always will be. Just because Newtek announced some new software doesn't mean that the current version no longer works...I still use Adobe's CS3 suite, it didn't stop working as soon as they released CS4.
CORE is still in it's infancy and will be reliant on the current incarnation of Lightwave for a long time as yet. Unless Newtek have done something amazing, CORE will be nothing more than a Lightwave plugin for a few years at least...I don't think that 'competition' is really something worth considering at this stage.

CS3 didnt stop working and you know that you can upgrade to CS4 when you want. If you are starting up a studio and want a 3d app would lightwave be the best choice, thinking of the future, sure its fine now but when you do need to upgrade, will core do what you want, will all your scenes you have still work, will core be able to do what you need. You know upgrading from CS3 to CS4, max 2009 to 2010 SI 7.0 to 7.5 is safe, you know the strenths and weakness of the apps, you know what to expect (to a point). But with lightwave nowone knows what to expect, different scene formats, completly different app, complete workflow changes (yes i have seen core working) the learing curve from what i have seen from lightwave to core is going to be similer to going to another app all together. Dont get me wrong newtek needed to do this, they have just gone the wrong way about it.

If Core 1.0 doesn't have all the best features of Maya, Softimage, modo, 3dsmax, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Zbrush, Mudbox and Vue, I am going to be very disappointed!
Dont forget blender :)
Zbrush and mudbox arnt 3d apps as such they are sculping apps.
And really is it to much to expect for a brand new app to have good modeling tools, caustics that work. a good partical system, dynamics that are stable, A render pass system, good memory management, Stability.
For the $2000 aus, plus maintiance that costs more then max, i think it is. The others cost more but they have a history, large user bases and work. Does Core???

I too think its a bit unreasonable to expect core to have like, everything, from the off. Hopefully if core's architecture is everything NT are aiming to make it, then solutions like this for fluids, dynamics, etc, will likely come from third parties... with core versions of the functions coming along later...
However, pointing out that this is gonna be in softimage, u can bet it'll be in the advanced verison... which is costing how much?? A good few notes more than core ill wager.

The only diffence between ess and adv is the extra mental ray nodes, and its stated in the link i add it will be in all versions of the software so that means it will be in adv, ess and the mod tool

i really dong get autodesk... what they plan? compete themselves ? closing xsi / maya is imminent... delaying pain is just wrong way to go... better to make cut sooner or later... or maybe they are not sure what to cut? max maya or xsi.....

They arnt going to kill any apps i think they will just focus them in different areas, Maya for film, Max for archvis, SI for games.

There's no real point in most of the things we talk about. Not just here, but everywhere. Ever since we invented language we've been blathering on senselessly and pointlessly to anyone who will listen, :D
Take this post as a perfect example. No point at all, and I didn't even mention CORE. Well I guess I did now, but still..

This kind of debate seems to come up on forums quite a lot. For all these flash add ons Maya and Softimage has, the vast majority of jobs I get in, only ever needs the standard stuff - models, some keyframes, a few deforms and some shaders, lights and render. - All of which Lightwave does very well and fairly quickly. Lightwave will continue to be my main app for this reason and the addition of CORE will just enhance things. Just because XSI got some fluids, isn't going to suddenly make me want to ditch LW, buy that and then spend 5 years getting back to the same level I am with Lightwave. I would think for the vast majority of current Lightwave users the same holds true.

:agree: I will be very upset if they don't implement the view cube in Core 1.0. ;)

Just curious have any Hardcore members received their T-shirt and membership card yet? Those are also unique features of Core that are probably still in development.

I might customize mine to do all my work for me, so that I can sleep in and play video games at night.
