Hello, I hope this is the right location to post this thread:
Can LightWave 9.6 (UB) export camera/lighting data to Adobe After Effects CS4?
I recall a .rla format and even some old school "transMotion Utility" that did a limited job of this. I'd rather not render out a .mov or .tif sequence, from LW and layer animated effects in After F/X.
Is exporting .rla the best way to interact with LW animation in After F/X CS4? If so, what type of data can I expect to interact with?
Your assistance is appreciated.

transmotion isn't as old school as you think. its constantly updated despite the site looking like it was done in '94. You want to use the POI Cam plugin that comes with transmotion to get camera data to AE.
I use it all the time. works great.
I'm not sure what you mean by lighting data. If you want to mimic LW light positions in AE, you could parent nulls to the lights then export the nulls along with the camera data with the POI plugin.

Hi monovich, thanks for the response.
Yes, that site is seemingly circa 94. A bit confusing which plugin I should download but I think I'll manage. I understand what you mean in regards to light positions and parenting nulls to camera.
If you happen to know of any other plugins that might also do the trick, I'm up for the research.
Thanks much monovich,

I do not know of any other plugins that do this, but then again I've never had to look because Transmotion works so well.
Transmotion comes with a few diff plugins, but the only one you use under normal circumstances is POI cam and the camera baker (which you must do before exporting)
The corner pin plugin that comes with transmotion is nice as well. works great in for AE corner pins, or many other compositing packages as well.
hit me up if you need help with the workflow. There is an order to it, but its quite functional.
